Pyrethroids and pyrethroids
Pyrethrin is an extract from dried chrysanthemum. It is mainly used as an indoor insecticide because it is stable under heat and light conditions. Some shampoos that kill head lice also contain pyrethroids. Pyrethroids are synthesized artificially on the basis of pyrethroid structure and bioactivity. The stability of pyrethroids has been increased. They are mainly classified into type I and type II. The toxicity of type II is greater than that of type I.
Synthetic pyrethroids are used in agriculture and horticulture to kill building pests such as termites, lice and fleas. Pyrethrin and pyrethroid can quickly penetrate into the pests and paralyze them. Permethrin is a kind of pyrethroid insecticide which does not contain cyanogen structure. It is the first photostable insecticide in the pyrethroid pesticides.
Pyrethrum is the dried inflorescence of Pyrethrum purpurea, which contains about 1% pyrethroid. It has the advantages of good insecticidal efficacy, fast knockdown and low toxicity. In recent years, synthetic pyrethroid analogues have many advantages, such as broad insecticidal spectrum, low toxicity to human and animals, less environmental residues, etc. Therefore, they are called pyrethroid insecticides. These insecticides are nerve agents.
At present, there are more than 20 kinds of practical products on the market. In China, deltamethrin, fenvalerate, cypermethrin, permethrin and aminephrine are mainly used, which are moderately toxic products with high oral absorption toxicity. Most of the insecticides contain pyrethroid synergist (P-450 cytochrome inhibitor). Household insecticides are mixtures of pyrethroids and other ingredients. Pyrethrin is a low toxic insecticide, but its toxicity and half-life of the drug can be significantly increased when combined with other insecticides, such as pyrethrum and prubenol. This type of insecticide has strong inhalation toxicity.
|Classification||Insecticide / Agrochemical|
|Biochemistry||Binds to sodium channels, prolonging their opening and thereby causing knockdown and death.|
|Mode of action||Non-systemic insecticide with contact action. Causes rapid knockdown (caused mainly by Pyrethrins II), with death occurring later (associated with Pyrethrins I). Has some acaricidal activity.|
|Usage||Control of a wide range of insects and mites in public health, stored products, animal houses, and on domestic and farm animals. Control of chewing and sucking insects and spider mites on fruit, vegetables, field crops, ornamentals, glasshouse crops, and house plants. Also used as personal insect repellents and for human head lice control. Normally combined with synergists, e.g. piperonyl butoxide, which slows down detoxification by the insects.|
