It is used to control annual and perennial broad-leaved weeds and Cyperaceae weeds in paddy fields, but has poor effect on gramineous weeds. It has good safety for wheat, rice and other crops. When used in wheat fields, the soil must be moist, the soil is dry and the efficacy is low. The outward appearance of Echinochloa crusgalli is characterized by abnormal hypertrophy of the growth points of the stems, leaves and roots, dense green of the leaf sheath, inhibition of plant growth, and eventual yellowing and death of the stems and leaves. The withering time of barnyard grass increased with the increase of leaf age.
