Physicochemical properties

Light yellow, low volatile wax solid, melting point 45~46 degrees Celsius. Sublimate at 90 /13.33Pa and the vapor pressure is 1.9 x 10-1mPa (25 C). Industrial products are slightly odorant and melt at temperatures above 40~44 C. Insoluble in water. The solubility at 25 ~C is 3 mg/L in water, 800 g/L in chloroform, 700 g/L in xylene, dimethylformamide, 620 g/L in ethyl ester, 550 g/L in cyclohexanone, 500 g/L in carbon tetrachloride, 120 g/L in isopropanol, 100 g/L in acetone, methanol and ethanol. It was stable under light and melting point and hydrolyzed to bromo cyanide at pH>9. It is stable in storage, does not react with most other pesticides, is slightly corrosive, and is easily hydrolyzed by dilute alkali solution. In soil, microbial activities and chemical processes are rapidly decomposed, with a half-life of about 10 days. Hydrolysis of nitrile groups to amides and free carboxylic acids in plants and animals, with some dehalogenation.

Toxicity

The acute oral administration of LD50 was 250 mg/kg in rats, 245 mg/kg in mice, 325 mg/kg in rabbits and 50 mg/kg in dogs. The rats were fed with diet containing 312mg/kg for 3 months without any adverse effects, but the rats were inhibited by diet containing 781mg/kg. The dogs were fed 5 mg/kg daily for 90 days without any adverse effects, and the dogs were fed 25 mg/kg dose without anorexia, but their weight was reduced. Pheasant LC50 (8 days) is 4400mg/kg. Rainbow trout LC50 (96 hours) is 0.05mg/L. It is nontoxic to bees.

Dosage form

Emulsions such as Brominil contain 240 g ai/L, Buctril M is a mixture of 20% octyl bromobenzonitrile and 20% 2-methyl-4-chloroisooctyl ester, Oxytril is a mixture of 40% iodobenzonitrile and octyl bromobenzonitrile, and Oxytril P is a mixture of bromobenzonitrile, octanoate of iodobenzonitrile and 2,4-isooctyl propionate with a total content of 660 g/L.
